Never sacrifice taste for value again!
By Michael Patrick
Why is it that when we have to cut back on our spending, it is invariably our poor, innocent taste buds that bear the brunt of this decision. It's fair to say, after all the joyous occasions they've helped you celebrate over the years, you'd bear them in mind when cutting back. Alas, no. But does it necessarily need to be this way? Are there ways that we can shop smart and cook even smarter. Well, my experience tells me that that is the case. Obviously it all starts with the shopping, you can be pulling together the cheapest recipe in the world but if you're buying your Raman Noodles from Christedes at $9 a packet, you're not doing yourself any good. So, I guess the initial, obvious statement is to shop smart, collect coupons, buy bulk and put food in the freezer. I buy a big bag of chicken breasts every month, divide into little 1lb bags and not only don't I need to go to the supermarket for a whle (saving on gas!) but I also pay as much as 40% less than I would if I bought that food in individual portions. Iti's not rocket science! Shopping is half the battle, once you get your Costco/Walmart or local Coupon accepting Supermarket out of the way, you've got to get the cooking done. I don't need to tell you, this is where you'll be judged in the eyes of the family. So, think outside the box, get creative and search the web. There's cheap meal ideas everywhere. I'll grant you, some don't look particularly appetizing, but dig a little further. They're out there. That's kind of why I setup my site, I wanted to still eat well while trying to watch my bottom line. That's not so bad is it? I don't want to seem spoilt or anything but I happen to like my tastebuds....they deserve to be looked after! (So does my heart and my waste line!!) So, the balls in your court. There's a lot of ways you can save money at the store if you alter your approach a little and there's more ways you can save and THRIVE in the kitchen if you broaden your search a little. Your taste buds will thank you!! |
